Weather watch

This page comprises atmospheric and sea-state data including storm track, cloud cover, air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, sea surface height, sea surface temperature, and rainfall forecasts. The information is used for disaster preparation and risk management, to minimize the impacts and to yield effective water resource management.

The data can be divided into 4 groups.

Group 1: Data for monitoring current weather and cloud cover condition and storm nowcasting. This group of data illustrates current storm track and projection (path and strength), cloud condition, and air pressure. Data consists of current storm track (if available), cloud cover map from GOES9, air pressure map, and figures of past storm tracks near Thailand.

Group 2: Maps of spatial distribution of surface temperature, relative humidity, and air pressure for observing current weather condition.

Group 3: Sea-state data for current weather monitoring, medium range weather forecasting including the analysis of storm formation, and detection of seasonal change. In addition, sea surface height and temperature data are also used to monitor regional phenomena affecting Thailand climate such as ENSO (El Nino Southern oscillation), PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) and IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole).

Data in this category are maps of sea surface temperature, significant wave height and wave direction, sea level anomaly, change in monthly and semimonthly sea surface temperature, weekly change in sea surface height anomaly, and a collection of figures in the study of storm formation using the weekly change in sea surface height anomaly.

Group 4: Data for short range weather forecasting including maps of 7-day rainfall projection for flash flood disaster preparation and for proper water resource management at different time frames, such as reservoir outflow planning.
